|NL Apr 26 1995 - "Morris, Fernandez post solid campaigns" Greg Morris and Rowell Fernandez, graduates of Nordonia High School, recently competed fine seasons with The College of Wooster's mens basketball team. A sophomore, Morris was the Scots' first post player off the bench. He provided critical scoring and rebounding throughout the season, averaging 4.5 points, and. 2.7 rebounds while appearing in all 29 contests.|
"Greg is an outstanding athlete and plays very hard," said Wooster head coach Steve Moore. "His play was an instrumental part, of our success and will be even more so in the future as his role increases?'
A sophomore, Fernandez was named Most Valuable Player of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament and the team's Most Improved Player. He started all 29 games at the point guard position, averaging 8.9 points and 2.8 assists per game.
"Rowell proved to be one of the finest point guards in our conference with his play this season," said Moore.
NL Mar 27 1996 - "Fernandez, Morris aid Wooster cause" Nordonia High School gradu-ates Rowell Fernandez and Greg Morris were major contributors to the success of the College of Wooster men's basketball, team this season.
The Scots posted a 19-7 mark overall and finished second in the North Coast Athletic Confer-ence with a 12-4 mark. They also reached the NCAA Tournament or the fifth time in six years.
A junior forward, Morris start-ed all 26 games, averaging 7.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He also finished second on the team in field goal percent-age (.559).
Fernandez, a junior point guard, averaged 9.2 points per game and led the team in 3-point goals (46) and assists (3.8 per game):
He also finished one steal shy (45) of the single-season school record.
Wooster head coach Steve Moore commented on both play-ers:
"Greg is one of our most con-sistent players," said Moore.
"Night in and night out, he plays hard and gives us a solid presence in the paint.
"Rowell is a great leader for us," he added. "Not only is he an outside shooting threat, but he is one of our bets defenders as well."
A sports medicine major, Mor-ris is the son of Thomas and Rosemary Morris of Macedonia.
Fernandez is the son of Junn and Dolores Fernandez in North-field.
NHS Nov 21 1996 - Rowell Fernandez and Greg Morris will be in the starting lineup when the College of Wooster varsity men's basketball team hosts the Alvan Wie Rotary Classic this weekend. The Nordonia grads are three-year starters and team captains for Wooster.
Fernandez is a 5-foot, 9-inch, 155-pound senior point guard with a college career average of 7.1 points and 2.5 assists per game. Morris is a 6-7, 220-pound forward averaging 5.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game for his career.
Nordonia grad Lou Russo is a member of the Hiram College men's varsity basketball team. Russo is a 5-foot, 10-inch freshman guard. Hiram will open its season this weekend at the Wooster Tour-nament.
